The origin of the name Chequerbent is unknown and the hamlet is located on the A6 between Over Hulton and White Horse. It was defined by the development of the Bolton – Leigh Railway in 1828 and Chequerbent station, terraced houses for workers along the A6 and Brancker Street, Hulton Collieries pits 1 and 2 and several other industries. One pub, the Stag and Griffin and a mission church and school complete the set of buildings.
